As one of the most visited cities in France, you would imagine that Bordeaux has a wide range of sights, tastes and experiences to offer tourists - and you'd be right!  As the capital of the Aquitane region in the south-west of the country, Bordeaux is famed the world over for it's delicious wines and beautiful French cuisine.  Aside from the fragrant red wines which are available everywhere in the city, Bordeaux is also known for it's pastries, the canneleés, which are hard to find anywhere else.  Aside from it's wonderful food, Bordeaux is also a feast for the eyes - the city has a number of UNESCO World Heritage recognized structures including the the Saint-Michel Basilica, the Saint-Andre Cathedral and the Saint-Seurin Basilica; a collection of Roman remains (Palais Gallien and the Victory Arch in La Victoire); and a quaint pedestrianized shopping street the Rue Sainte-Catherine.  Further afield, visitors can sample many of the famous wines grown and produced in the area - such as at Saint Emilion (also UNESCO World Heritage listed), in the Medoc region, and at Chateau de Curton.

The city of Bordeaux and the surrounding region is serviced by the Bordeaux-Merignac Airport, located approximately seven kilometres to the west of Bordeaux's city centre just off of the E05/A630 ring-road.  It is a relatively busy complex, seeing almost three and a half million passengers through it's doors each year, and is visited by a wide selection of airlines that includes BMI Baby, British Airways, FlyBe, Easy Jet, and Air France. Car hire for exploring the wider region is recommended - Avis, Sixt, Hertz, Europcar and Budget are amongst the companies that operate from the airport.
